How to Exude Confidence at Work

Confidence at Work

Exuding confidence in the workplace is extremely important because this can bring many benefits to your career. Not only will you perform better if you are confident at work, but you will be regarded by your peers as a capable colleague. Being self-confident is all about the way that you perceive yourself and your abilities.

If you esteem yourself as a desirable employee, and you are confident about this, this will be reflected in your actions. You may be thinking, this is easier said than done. If you struggle with your confidence and you want to make an impression at work, keep reading, this is the article for you!

Looking Good, Feeling Good

In order to act confident, you should really feel confident inside. We aren’t just talking about the physical aspects, but rather how you feel as a whole. You need to project the image that you wish to convey to others. This could include getting a fresh haircut or buying a whole new outfit. Invest both time and money in yourself. Go out and get a tailored suit or if you want that added boost of height, treat yourself to some men’s elevator dress shoes.

A great way of feeling good is by doing regular exercise and getting out of the house. Eating well is another determining factor that will help you feel healthier, both inside and out. Overall, you should try to keep healthy on a psychological and emotional level. The key to success is inner happiness so make sure to keep that in mind.

Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone

A great way to exude and build confidence is by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. We have all heard of the saying, ‘fake it till you make it’, so take this on board in the workplace. If you start volunteering for projects, or tasks, that you wouldn’t normally do, this will allow you to push your personal boundaries and grow as an individual in the workplace.

Your peers will deem you as a more capable leader and trustworthy colleague. Regularly trying new things is a great way to learn that you are much more capable than you think. You will realize that you can achieve anything that you are reluctant to try, and this will inherently increase your own self-confidence.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

One of the worst things that you can do to your self-confidence is to continuously compare yourself to others. Remember that everyone is different and equipped with their own set of skills. Find out what your strengths are in the workplace and make sure that you excel in this area. You won’t be good at everything, however, as long as you put in 110%, your efforts will not go by unnoticed.

If you do happen to make a few mistakes along the way, don’t worry this is the best way to learn. Another great tip to remember is that you won’t always be liked by everyone. However, this isn’t the most important thing in the workplace. If you care too much about what others think you won’t be able to make effective and confident decisions.

Practice Your Public Speaking

The best way to translate confidence is by having a reassuring tone of voice with a clear idea of what you wish to communicate. Try to avoid using terms like “I think” or “maybe” and completely eradicate fillers, such as “um” or “like”, from your vocabulary. These words and fillers make you sound unsure of yourself. They do not convey confidence or authority; therefore, it is best to avoid them. If you know you have to present something at work, then make sure you practice.

Don’t be afraid to get in front of the mirror at home and rehearse your speech. The better you know your topic, the less likely you are to stumble on your words and use unnecessary speech fillers. Public speaking is a great skill to have for personal development, so keep on practicing to improve. Don’t be afraid to network at business events. Strike up a casual conversation and blow everyone away with your charisma. This may seem daunting at first but once you get into the habit of breaking the ice, you will be unstoppable.

Overall, confidence is something that is developed, built upon, and nurtured. It may be easier for some than others, however, if you put your mind to it and follow our tips, you too can become a confident person.
